Sometimes the best vacation is the one you take at home.

Today was my husband and my 24th wedding anniversary. Every year we go away for a few days to reconnect and get away from the stresses and trials of life. We usually go out of town to get a chance to visit a new area. We never want to stay at home because we see the sites every day so that's no fun, right? Wrong!
Our lives are pretty busy these days and now that my mom lives with us, going far away or away for several days is not very easy. As a result we chose to stay at The Westin at Bridge Street and it was absolutely amazing. Hard to believe we've lived in Huntsville for almost twelve years but have never stayed at the hotel before this weekend. I've been to The Westin several times for multiple weddings as an assistant wedding coordinator and have seen the rooms of many bridal parties but this was my first visit. We somehow got a free upgrade and had a room on the sixth floor with a lovely view. I'll let the pictures tell the story!
For twenty-four hours we were able to get away without all the hassle and time involved with our usual anniversary vacations. We forgot where we were and time slowed down for just long enough for us to reboot and re-energize. The room service food was delicious and dinner at Connors was spectacular. And to top it off, the weather, although a little hot, was gorgeous.
The next time you're looking for a great place to visit, you may just want to go explore your own hometown. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised and I can almost guarantee you'll discover something new.
